Cold and Miserable Weather

The last few days, we've had some pretty miserable weather with temperatures mostly around freezing and over three inches of rain with most of it coming as freezing rain.  It's the most miserable type of weather that there is with mud, rain, cold, ice, and grey skies.

I'm hoping that it isn't going to be like this all winter long.

  1. That much freezing rain here would mean for a long spell without electricity due to all the downed powerlines due to trees. I'm guessing Oklahoma doesn't have it quite so bad, especially out of the towns. Still, nothing like freezing wet weather to make anything miserable, electrified or not.

    1. The temperature was hovering right around 31-34 degrees, so about half of it was actually freezing rain, and it built up at least a quarter-inch thick. It seemed like there was more downed tree limbs scattered around than I'd think there would have been, but the electricity stayed on.

It was much worse west of here with more freezing rain and power outages.

The electric lines out at the farm are pretty reliable, a lot of them were rebuilt and upgraded during the oil boom of the last number of years since most of the wells had submersible electric pumps.

    1. This winter, I've been in the typical routine trying to come up with some sort of plan for next year, feeding hay, worrying about my wheat crop, and slowly fixing everything that I've managed to break or wear out over the past year.

I've been thinking about changing some things on the farm, but have had a sort of "blogger's block" whenever it comes time to write anything about it because I haven't completely worked everything out in my head yet (if that makes sense).

But, I'm pretty close to getting something figured out, so I'm planning on blogging about some of what I'm thinking about doing pretty soon.

  3. I'm guessing from the above comments, bloggers block has still got a hold on you. I just watched a show last night about earthquakes in your area caused by injection of brine water removed from oil back into the earth. The numbers of earthquakes were staggering, no pun intended. Anyway, I got to thinking about you and realizing that it had been awhile. It would be interesting to hear your take on the earthquake problem. Take care.
